Can we rebrand my profession so it doesn't sound so desperate to be... well, professional?
I was originally going to name this post: Stop Buying S#*T. However, I realized right away that would be too harsh.

Guess what? I’m big in Japan. Ok, maybe not me, Rascher Marie Alcasid. The organizing / simple lifestyle ethos and home organizing industry is on the rise around the world.
Projects. We all have them. At work, the value of projects completed is quantified, your salary against how much you get done. At home, we don't have to complete projects in a timely way because... no one is paying us to do it.
So often, in the realm of organizing, either self or professionally imposed, there are insurmountable hurdles. These hurdles take the shape of an unavoidable pile on the floor, resembling nothing like an elephant except for in size.
“Good habits are worth being fanatical about.” - John Irving Fanaticism acts as cement. It hardens your best habits into a discipline which then becomes, simply, who you are. Fanaticism about certain habits prevents me from being lazy, which I am, inherently.
There are certain patterns I have noticed when I work with people in their offices and homes. No matter what the state of things when I arrive—from slightly broken organizational systems to evidence of systems never having existed—there are piles.
The secret to being that amazing put together person who leaves the house composed and ready for the day is: Doing everything the night before. Ta da!
I mean it, this is the shortest guide in existence. As far as I know. These are the tenets boiled down from all of the books I've read, my own experiences and observations of others.
I am a speed reader. No, I never took courses. I speed read because I have always loved reading and tend to devour books. I can't stand suspense either, I absolutely have to get to that next sentence, paragraph and chapter.
Every single person who needs help organizing their home or work space already has a system in place. Then life happens.
