When You Ask Google Why You’re Disorganized
My Real Beef with Lifestyle Minimalism? Can’t Afford It.
Apparently, I'm not the only one who feels stretched really thin under the weight of normal responsibilities and the wants and needs of daily life.
When I talk with clients about their dream space (their ideal home or work set up) 70% of the time I hear a variation on this: When I’m on vacation and I first get to my hotel room, I sigh with relief at the sight of the room. I want that feeling in my own home. I want that that feeling when I sit down at my desk to work.
On the heels of a recent post about living the good life with kids, I began to see a flurry of advice for overwhelmed parents. Seems I'm not the only one with an impossible dream to live in peace with small, organizationally deranged humans who leave a trail of toys wherever they wander.
In the weeks after Hurricane Sandy, so many people lost homes that New York City had to scramble to find housing. In the immediate aftermath, housing had to be in shelters in and around the city, many of which were in schools and old armories. The shipping container solution the city had planned for such events were, unfortunately, not ready for Hurricane Sandy.
In the past 15 years, more and more people have joined the lifestyle movement known as minimalism. It's amazing really. My favorite minimalists are Graham Hill and The Minimalists.
