Best Guides to Moving Abroad
A few days ago, a tweet from @jveighty6 came, asking for advice on moving abroad so I scoured my favorite sites for the best guides. I plucked the best from a few reliable sources and threw in a few profiles of international movers just for fun. While I've moved 31 times, I have not moved overseas (yet!). I thought it best to defer to the experts.
Make sure to skim through the reader comments in the blog posts below. They contain priceless insight from those who have been through an overseas move recently.
Planning begins with paper and a pen.
Take out a notebook and a pen so you can make a list of things that apply to you from the following guides:
First, the preparation phase. This and this from Apartment Therapy covers the major categories. Lifehacker Australia had this from someone who learned some things the hard way - which I have found is sometimes the best way. Unclutterer, one of my favorite organizing sites, has some good advice on the practical nitty gritty of packing up your home.

Finances, because we never want to stumble into surprises when it comes to our money.
An offbeat guide.
Also for fun, in case you always wanted to know how a diplomat would move.
From Design Sponge, a great guide for paring it down, perhaps the most important thing you can do no matter where you move.
And if you need a break from all the planning and just want a contemplative view of international movers, here are two profiles from my favorite web magazine Freunde Von Freunden: an artist and her beautiful home and creations, who made the leap from UK to NY then CA. And another designer who jumped from Lebanon, to Paris, NYC and Beirut.
Hope these guides make your move less stressful so you can focus on the best part of moving: exploring your new city!
